Phyllis V. Schlemmer (1929–2013) was an internationally known psychic, medium, and lecturer whose reported psychic abilities emerged in childhood. She was the principal channel whose communications formed the basis of The Only Planet of Choice, co-authored with parapsychologist Dr Andrija Puharich and Sir John Whitmore. Her work also features prominently in Stuart Holroyd’s The Nine: Briefing From Deep Space. Both books record communications attributed to the group known as “The Nine.” Occasional participants included Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and Lyall Watson, author of the bestselling 1973 book Supernature.
The Nine first appeared in the 1950s through Puharich’s interactions with the Indian mystic Dr D. G. Vinod while he was studying the medium Eileen Garrett. They described themselves as the “Nine Principles and Forces.” In Schlemmer’s material, they are usually presented as universal beings, cosmic intelligences, or an enlightened group who discuss extraterrestrial civilisations and humanity’s place in a populated universe.
