Viscount Adare

Number of books: 1

Edwin Richard Wyndham-Quin, 3rd Earl of Dunraven and Mount-Earl (1812–1871), was an Irish peer, Conservative Member of Parliament, and amateur archaeologist. Known as Viscount Adare from 1824 until 1850, he succeeded his father to become the 3rd Earl of Dunraven. He served as MP for Glamorganshire and was deeply interested in archaeology, contributing significantly to the study of medieval Italian campaniles. As a respected figure in both political and scholarly circles, Dunraven’s legacy endures through his public service and his archaeological work.

A keen spiritualist, Dunraven took part in séances conducted by the Scottish medium Daniel Dunglas Home. Fascinated by these experiences, he documented them in a book titled Experiences in Spiritualism with Mr. D. D. Home, published in 1869. The book provides a detailed account of Home’s spiritualist activities and the inexplicable phenomena witnessed by Dunraven and other attendees. This association with Home played a major role in shaping Dunraven’s interest in spiritualism and the paranormal.
