In 1930, Charles Drayton Thomas, a Wesleyan minister, received a letter from an aristocratic lady named Agnes asking if he was interested in publishing a manuscript. She explained that her nephew, Edgar, had been killed in 1917 at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, France, during WWI.

Agnes was a member of the Society for Psychical Research and had previously approached fellow member Sir Oliver Lodge who had arranged a sitting for her with the British medium, Gladys Osborne Leonard. Agnes was suitably impressed with the sitting and came to believe that Edgar was communicating and letting her know of his continued ‘post death’ existence on the other side of the veil.

The sittings with Mrs. Leonard continued twice a year and over time Agnes’s sister, Helen, visited and eventually, their very skeptical brother, William, Edgar’s father, did too. Notes were made of the sittings and Agnes suggested to Drayton Thomas that once she, her sister, Helen, and brother, William, had died, he might like to publish the family’s story.

During the following decades Helen and William passed away and communicated both via Mrs. Leonard and directly to Agnes using automatic writing which she had developed a talent for. The Helen and William claimed they were now with Edgar and for the most part, very happy in their new-found state. The communication continued until Agnes’ death in 1942.

This book documents one family’s experience from physical life through death to beyond.
